Right from the start

During the first five years a child’s brain is rapidly growing and maturing.

The love and attention a child receives and the nurturing and positive experiences a child encounters have a huge impact.

Parents and caregivers are the central figures in a child’s life. As they talk, sing, play and laugh with their child, as they provide a sense of security and belonging, they help promote healthy child development.

Communities can also play a part in giving children the best start in life. In New Westminster, people from across the community have formed an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Committee to support families and children.
