For parents in BC looking for childcare or for programs and services for young children and families, life just got a little easier. Two new online maps launched May 24 by the Ministry of Children and Family Development help users zero in on MCFD-funded programs and services available in their communities.
The Early Years Services map helps parents and caregivers find a variety of programs and services in their community or nearby, including Parent Child Mother Goose, Home Visiting programs, Family Resource Programs, Seeds of Empathy and Aboriginal Seeds of Empathy, Immigrant Settlement Agencies, Children First, StrongStarts, and others. Locations and contact information are provided for the mapped services, and users are instructed to contact the service providers in their area for further information on accessing a program.
The Child Care Map displays the locations of the more than 5,000 licensed child-care providers in BC communities, along with links to the summaries of health authority inspection reports. Parents can specify in their search the type of care needed, hours of operation, languages spoken, and more.
Mary McNeil, Minister of Children and Family Development, explains that “we know that parents are often juggling several things at once, so we wanted to create user-friendly online tools to help busy parents find and access local programs.” In the months ahead, the ministry plans to continue to add service providers to the maps, and to work on ensuring the maps are easy to use and up to date.
