Our Health Our Future: A National Dialogue on Healthy Weights
This collaborative federal/provincial/territorial (FPT) initiative is designed to engage Canadians in the issue of healthy weights and childhood obesity and determine how it needs to be addressed.  Dr. David Butler-Jones, Chief Public Health Officer, PHAC, wrote, “We will start by talking frankly about this issue with the Canadian public as well as industry, communities and other stakeholders. We will also reach out to key stakeholder groups, including youth, parents, educators, industry, health experts and Aboriginal groups, through marketing and social media. Through both online and in-person events, we will identify gaps and opportunities, and obtain commitments for actions to support healthy weights for children and youth.  We will also seek the expertise of a broad range of individuals and organizations working on this issue across the country. This data will inform how we move forward to implement the Curbing Childhood Obesity: A FPT Framework for Action on Healthy Weights, which was endorsed by Ministers of Health in September 2010.  Before the next Health Ministers’ Meeting in November 2011, a national summit on healthy weights for children and youth will be held to determine concrete actions for the future.  By working together, we will find ways to address this issue and help ensure a bright, healthy future for Canadian children.”
